ORLAWITHAFADA

Well hello there, fancy seeing you here!

I’m Órla. That little line above the ‘O’ in my name is called a fada. There are a few ways that you can spell the name ‘Órla’: Órlaith, Órfhlaith, Orlagh, or my personal enemy: Orla. ‘O’ and ‘Ó’ are different letters, dear reader, and the words ‘Orla’ and ‘Órla’ carry very different meanings. ‘Órla’ (MY name) means ‘golden princess’ as Gaeilge- how beautiful. ‘Orla’ (NOT MY NAME) without the fada means ‘vomit’, ie. the substance that is thrown up when you are ill. My name is Órla, with a fada. I think you can see where I’m going with this.

I make pots

My sidekick Louis and I run a little pottery studio in Churchtown, Dublin. His job includes things like security (particularly against any foxes/cats that try to break in and commit terrible crimes), stick-eating, birdwatching, and snoozing. My job covers pretty much everything else; from designing to making and decorating, marketing, selling, and whatever else is required. I do basically nothing when compared with Louis’ heavy workload.

I make all sorts of functional tableware, alongside an ever-growing range of vases, jars, jugs, and pots. I also use a range of ‘wild’ clays (hand-dug by me) from around Ireland in my work.

If you have something specific in mind, or you can’t find what you’re looking for in my store, don’t hesitate to fill out the form on my commissions page.
